What is hydrogen peroxide therapy?
Hydrogen peroxide therapy, also known as “bio-oxidative therapy,” is a cancer treatment approach used by some alternative medicine practitioners. This treatment is based on the belief that low oxygen levels contribute to cancer, with proponents suggesting that supplying cells with abundant oxygen through hydrogen peroxide could help treat the disease. Typically, hydrogen peroxide is either injected directly into the tumor or taken orally. Although some research indicates that cancer cells may thrive in low-oxygen environments, there is no conclusive evidence that excess oxygen can inhibit their growth. Moreover, consuming or injecting hydrogen peroxide can be highly dangerous—potentially causing burns in the mouth or stomach, ulcers, and respiratory distress—especially at the high concentrations sometimes recommended by alternative practitioners. Therefore, clients should carefully consider the limited efficacy and significant risks associated with hydrogen peroxide therapy before pursuing any treatments involving its use.
