Brown & Medina Nutrition (formerly of Joy Bauer Nutrition) is a comprehensive private nutrition practice specializing in individual and family nutrition counseling for all ages. I am an experienced Registered Dietitian, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, medical nutrition therapy, and general nutrition counseling. I am currently the director of the nutrition department at the NYS Psychiatric Institute, an in-patient treatment unit at Columbia University Medical Center. My philosophy is founded on the principle that being healthy does not require dieting or deprivation. We will work towards creating a healthy relationship with food by normalizing eating behaviors and developing the skills to make mindful decisions about food and your body.

I practice Chinese Acupuncture and Herbology not only to treat a variety of physical symptoms but also as a preventative to many common conditions and ailments. I bring to my practice extensive knowledge of the body gained from my training as a physician and Ob/Gyn in China, and through my 18 years as an practicing acupuncturist. At our clinic we work holistically in both our diagnosis (TCM) and treatment. We believe that pain and disease both manifest from imbalances in Qi, which is the fundamental energy flowing through us. Dr. Zhou is a licensed acupuncturist and neuroscientist, he received his MD from China and obtained his PhD in neuroscience from Japan. He had his resident training in Acupuncture, Orthopedics surgery and Neurology in China, he did postdoctoral research at the the Uni. of Texas. Dr. Zhou has worked in the field of brain research at New York Medical College, the Uni. of Pittsburgh, Columbia Uni, and Weill Cornell Medical College. His research interest is synaptic mechanisms, therapeutic solutions for neurologic diseases, pain, memory, and learning, possesses a strong publication record.
